Welcome to Emma’s Sett Valley Cafe! Nestled at the foot of the scenic Sett Valley Trail in Birch Vale, Sett Valley Cafe is a cosy, independent cafe known for its legendary homemade pies, hearty breakfasts and indulgent cakes. With just a handful of indoor seats and a spacious outdoor area, it’s the perfect stop for walkers, cyclists and four-legged friends alike.
We serve up fresh, locally sourced food daily - offering plenty of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Whether you're after a traditional breakfast, a flaky sausage roll, or a rich shakshuka, everything’s made with care, flavour and local food sourcing in mind.
Open daily from 10am–3pm, we're proud to be a warm and welcoming pit stop with strong coffee, dog treats, and a view of the trail.
Meet the owner
Just one person’s excuse to eat cake, talk to dogs, and drink too much coffee.
Hi, I’m Emma, the new owner here at the Sett Valley Cafe. I’m incredibly lucky to be taking over from Jo, who poured her heart, soul and probably a few gallons of coffee into building this cafe into the well-loved community hub it is today.
What started as Jo’s small idea (and possibly a big oven) has become a trail-side gem for walkers, cyclists, cake hunters, and dogs with excellent taste. I’m honoured to keep that spirit going—with the same homemade food, friendly welcome, and slightly chaotic charm you know and love.
With a background in hospitality (hopefully most of you will know me from The Pack Horse, Hayfield!) I wanted to take on a new challenge and build upon something small but special, where muddy boots, dogs, bikes, and big appetites are always welcome.
With a brilliant local team and Jo’s legacy in every corner, I’m lucky to work with people who care as much as I do about quality, friendliness, and keeping things sustainable.
Come as you are—muddy boots, barking dogs and all. We’ve probably got a slice of something waiting for you.
